Sermon Study

In "Aligning With The Lion/Lamb In A Donkey/Elephant Zoo," Pastor Matthew Maher takes us on a journey back to the beginning of God's creation to understand the current state of the world through a biblical lens. Drawing from Matthew 24 and the "days of Noah," we see how society has fallen into moral defiance, leading to violence and spiritual indifference. In Noah's day, what was immoral had become normalized, and today, history is repeating itself. The church of today faces a similar reality as the first-century church did in a pre-Christian world. But just as the early church was victorious, the church today is called to be courageous and steadfast, despite the increasing divide between the apostate and apostolic branches. We are reminded that the church's mission, rooted in truth, is to be a light in the midst of a world that has redefined and distorted what God originally designed.

Pastor Maher emphasizes that we must understand the battle at hand by recognizing that the core issues in today's world reflect the seeds planted in Genesis. Lucifer seeks to undo what God has established—whether it's the sanctity of life, the institution of marriage, or the identity of humanity itself. Just as in the beginning, God created man and woman in His image, granting them free will and inalienable rights to life and dignity. As followers of Christ, we must align ourselves with these biblical truths, standing against any agenda, platform, or ideology that seeks to undermine God's authority. This calls for a rejection of the “woke” version of Jesus, who conforms to the world rather than transforming it. The true church must rise in defense of life, marriage, and the divine order established by God.

In practical terms, this alignment requires a commitment to standing for biblical justice and truth, even when it contradicts societal trends. We must be both the Lamb—offering grace and love to those who are lost—and the Lion, standing boldly for righteousness. Our challenge is not to be swept up by the noise of political or cultural movements (the donkey and elephant), but to stay rooted in the eternal perspective, with our eyes fixed on the Lion who will reign and the Lamb who was slain for us. In doing so, we overcome the world by holding to the love of the Lamb and the truth of the Lion.
